Application Description
Actuators to provide motion integral to multi-head scales used to sort, divide, weigh and package a variety of dry foods.

Challenge
An international manufacturer of food packaging machinery requested an alternative to the food-grade belts and pulleys, to ease the cleaning process. The dispensing head must be in sync with the conveyor carrying the containers, requiring high-speed synchronized motion. In addition, the actuators were required to meet multiple international food-handling standards.

Tolomatic Solution
The ERD SS1 Rod-Style Actuator furnished the customer with an electric alternative that checked all the boxes. This hygienically designed, fully stainless steel electric actuator meets USDA and 3A (#14159-1-2010) standards and can be washed and sanitized in place. It also provides a maximum speed of 40 in/sec (1 m/sec) and thrust of 500 lbf (2.2 kN), providing flexibility for the manufacturer and their customers.
