Application Description:  
Positioning a plastic welding head.    

Challenge:
A custom OEM (original equipment manufacturer) machine builder of plastic welding systems wanted to replace hydraulic cylinders for better control and feedback while eliminating the potential contamination from leaking hydraulic fluids.  The hydraulic cylinder had challenges maintaining accurate and consistent positioning which affected the quality of welds.  Because the manufacturer's plastic welding systems are used in a wide variety of industries to manufacture a high volume and variety of parts, the risk of hydraulic leaks was a concern for their customers.   

Tolomatic Solution:
Tolomatic utilized the RSA rod-style electric linear actuator with a ball screw to provide accurate, repeatable positioning to ensure high-quality plastic welds.  The built-in encoder with a servo motor allowed the customer to register position with every weld for quality assurance.  Finally, the all-electric solution provided the OEM with a market advantage by eliminating the contamination concern of hydraulic fluid leaks.
