Where Can Industrial Caliper Brakes Be Used?

Industrial caliper brakes are similar in design to those used on cars, but are specifically designed for industrial applications that require larger braking torque and a larger variety of mounting configurations. They can be found on assembly lines, material tensioners and off-road vehicles.

Choosing the Right Industrial Caliper Brake

There are 4 different types of industrial brake calipers: Pneumatic, Hydraulic, Spring-Applied and Mechanical

  • Pneumatic calipers use air pressure to apply braking force and are used in low brake torque applications where only pneumatic air is readily available.
  • Hydraulic calipers use hydraulic pressure to apply braking force and are used in high brake torque applications where hydraulic pressure is readily available.
  • Spring-applied calipers use internal spring washers to apply braking force, which can be released via hydraulic pressure, and are used as holding or safety brakes.
  • Mechanical calipers use a lever to apply braking force, and are used when pneumatic or hydraulic pressure is not available or when a manual brake is required.
